Military Suicides Essay - 2679 Words

Among American civilians, whites have historically and significantly led the way in the rates of suicides. Although leveling off after the 1990’s, the rate of white suicides has still been almost twice as much as minority groups. It has also been shown that males commit suicide significantly more than females. Figure 1 Figure 2 As the rate of suicides increases in our nation, it has risen consistently with white males leading the way, as shown in figures 1 and 2. There are many theories behind what is driving this, however there are no hard facts behind any of these theories and there is still no concrete reason why white males are more prone to commit suicide. A very important group within the American population has been†¦show more content†¦Since 2009, suicide rates among those on active-duty status have stabilized at approximately 18 per 100 000. It is important to know the factors driving this increase for many reasons. The most important thing we can get from this is a better to way to both prevent and treat victims faced with thoughts of suicide. Figure 3 A widely believed cause of this increase in suicides lies mostly on combat aspects. Being in the military is a lifestyle that is truly physically draining. The day to day life of being in the military is stressful. Multiple tours, increased stress, longer hours ‘repetitive deployments and much longer deployments, being away from friends and family more than in the past than in recent years can be believed to take a heavy toll on service members. The Rand Corporation issued in a report on military suicides that states that the US involvement in conflicts since 2001 has taken a toll on the service that has manifested itself in increased suicides. Dr. Brian Craig, Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University Of Texas Health Science Center, says that it is not just the traumatic events but the day to day stressors of combat that cause problems. Antigone By Sophocles Antigone - 912 Words

In Sophocles, â€Å"Antigone† begins with the stages of grief as Antigone mourns the loss of her two brothers, Polyneikes and Eteokles, who die simultaneously in face-to-face combat in Thebes. Eteokles dies with honor fighting for the Thebesians and is honored with rituals and a proper burial. The body of Polyneikes, who attempted to burn the city of Thebes, is left for the dogs and birds to savage. Thesbesian’s law forbids anyone giving a traitor, like Polyneikes, a proper burial, for that itself is a crime punishable by death. Antigone is angered that Polyneikes is not going to receive a proper burial and is determined that she must honor him even if it means the end of her life. Antigone alone attempts to bury her brother, but is captured and imprisoned, at which point she decides to form a noose around her neck and end her life. Sophocles leaves the reader to question whether Antigone’s suicide is an act of heroism, a stand for the citizens of Thebes, or a selfish way of coping with personal trauma. Antigone sought assistance in burying her brother from her only family member alive, her sister, Ismene, who tries to reason with her. Ismene proclaims, â€Å"Remember, we’re women. How can we fight men? They’re stronger† (Sophocles 749). The physical statures of neither Polyneikes nor Antigone were not ever mentioned, but in general men typically weigh more and have a larger build than women. Innovation Types and Network Relationships

Question: Discuss about the Innovation Types and Network Relationships. Answer: Introduction The WAN connection is useful for establishing wide spread data and network communication for the organization. The data traffic can be reduced due to use of WAN connections. It would help the business organizations for consolidating the resources in one data centre. The distributed data centres can be a hindrance for quick operations and decision making (Mazalan et al. 2013). However the WAN connection would help in bringing all the data on a single platform for easing the flow of operations. The WAN communication would be helpful for bridging the gap between the two places. Netronics Enterprises had implied WLAN in their Brisbane offices. In this assignment a network diagram has been made for Netronics Enterprises to imply communication between the main headquarter and the Brisbane branch of Netronics Enterprises. The new offices have been made in the same building with office one on ground floor and the office two and server room at first floor. Network Segments Requirement of network segments: The network segment can be defined as a logical computer group sharing the same network resource. It can be attained by using the router, VLAN, and switch segmentation. The switching technology provides better technology for the network segmentation. The segmentation of the network requires mapping or using VLANs, and back to core switching. The components of the proposed network diagram are: Routers- Routers are the device that helps in connecting two or more networks on a single platform. The routers are located at places where more networks are required for processing. The number of routers required for the proposed network is two. One router would be used for connecting the data centre to the internet. The other router would help in connecting the individual LAN networks of the Brisbane office to the internet (Kripalani 2015). The wired Ethernet router would be best suitable for accomplishing the requirements of the company. However, for the Brisbane office of the company, wireless router would be required. It would be helpful in creating the wireless access point for the office. Switches- The switches are the connectors that connect two devices within a network. The connection is established with the use of packet switching. It would help in sending, receiving and processing the data for the destination device. The network switch forwards data to multiple devices that need to receive it. 3 switches would be required in the proposed diagram for WAN connection of the Netronics Enterprises. Each of the Switches would be used for connection of the internet to the respective office and server room. Managed switches would be best suitable for accomplishing the requirements of the company. NIC cards- The NIC card or the network interface controller is known by many names such as network adapter, LAN adapter, or network interface card. It is a hardware component of the network that is helpful for the forming the connection between the computer and computer network. The network cards are used for both wired and wireless network connection. The modern network interface controller helps in offering advanced features such as the DMA interfaces and interrupts. The NIC cards would be used in each of the computer devices of the Brisbane offices. Multi-queue NICs could be easily used for the proposed network diagram of the organization. Physical cables- The physical cables are required in hundreds of meters for forming the wired network connection in the system. The twisted pair cables provide the best option for connecting the Ethernet routers. The proposed network would provide the benefit of the both LAN and WLAN connection at the Brisbane offices. However, the connection within the network of the office would be completed only by the use of cable wires. The LAN connection can provide an average speed of max 10Gbps (for 10GBASE-T twisted cable) (Yang, Zhou and Cao 2013). The presence of 8 wires in twisted pairs would help in minimizing the electromagnetic interference that is perceived in the data transmission system. Firewall- Firewall provides the network security and privacy in the system. The firewall can be hardware or software depending upon the requirements. They help in preventing the unauthentic access in the network by forming some security measures. The data sets leaving or entering the intranet must have to go through the firewall for making sure that each of the data packets is secured. Some initial security criteria is stored in the firewall upon which the data traffic is examined. The usage of the network would decrease the cost of correspondence for the long separation and the intra-office correspondence (Thaler et al. 2012). While decreasing the cost the execution of the system is additionally enhanced, and the individual can be reached in a short interim of time. The solutions for applying the utilization of joining are brought together for the arrangement in the system are as per the following: Transmission upgrade and choice of grouped movement sorts that can help in lossless correspondence benefit for the proficient operation of the Netronics Enterprises headquarter. Development of the priority based on controlling the flow of the data traffic for operating in a unified communication and increasing the efficiency and usability of the proposed network. Initialization of the congestion notification for controlling or triggering the flow of the network for the bound communication and cooperation with the worldwide network and Netronics Enterprises home office Creation of the server and crossing over which can be utilized for the trading of system convention and outline the system for expanding the productivity and similarity of the system. LAN types and cabling plan for integrating the business operations The business operations can be enhanced with the use of the distinctive sorts of LAN and links in the system. There are diverse sorts of LANs accessible, however the proper sort is required to be decided for expanding the productivity of the system. The CAN (Controller Area Network) can be actualized for the interconnection of the two working in a solitary system. The association is built up utilizing the assets or by the ISP benefit supplier. The Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) is utilized for associating the entire city and vast land areas over the rented circuits of media transmission. WAN or Wide Area Network is the most proper system reasonable for the application in the Netronics Enterprises base camp. The casing transfer and switches can be connected in the system to make LANs in numerous areas of the system. Salem Witchcraft Trial Hysteria of 1692 free essay sample

In the 1600’s rumors of witchcraft spread throughout England and even more so in New England. Though punishing someone by death for practicing witchcraft was not unheard of, it was all but common; that is, until the year 1692 in Salem, Massachusetts. From the tenth of June to the twenty-second of September, twenty men and women were killed, all by hanging except one, because they were accused and convicted of practicing witchcraft; the convictions escalated in number and frequency. The question at hand is whether or not these convictions came unwarranted and if not, why? What caused such hysteria of witchcraft in this small city? Three years prior to the hysteria, a very admired and respected minister, Cotton Mather, told of how, â€Å"these evil spirits are all around† – â€Å"these evil spirits† being the workers of Satan who are working against the power of God. In Document C, he is quoted as a secondary source countering the theory that witchcraft was only performed by Indians. We will write a custom essay sample on Salem Witchcraft Trial Hysteria of 1692 or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page He supports his own theory by referring to the growing number of witchcraft cases that are occurring in Christian households. He makes a general statement warning everyone to spread his word of the growth of the evil spirits and to take caution. This quote seems to plant the seed of witchcraft in everyone’s mind. Once warned, the people of Salem walk on egg shells trying to find signs of witchcraft, but also avoiding them as much as possible. Continuing with another primary source, the examination of Bridget Bishop, a young lady accused of being a witch, was recorded by the Village’s minister, Samuel Parris. Document F demonstrates how the accused was put on trial and examined with â€Å"solid† evidence. In this examination it is noted how Bishop’s actions would affect the afflicted girls. They all accused Bishop of hurting them and bewitching Bishop’s first husband. When she would come in close proximity to the girls, they would tall into the anxious fits that were said to be a tell-tale sign of bewitchment. In another document, Document H, the anxious fits were further analyzed and described. The fits were described as â€Å"very likely genuine,† â€Å"born of†¦ a magic that threatened to overpower them. † It was very unlikely that these fits would be fabricated. When Bishop would gesture, the accused would have pain inflicted upon them in some way. For example, when Bishop shook her head to deny something the examiner said, the accusers were tortured and when Bishop rolled her eyes in disgust the accusers’ This examination was right before the hysteria flourished, it proves everyone’s fears about witchcraft and helps to water that witchcraft seed. Finally, the depositions of Ann Putnam Jr. and Sr. in regards to the harassing by Rebecca Goody (Document K and Document L) are prime examples of how the witchcraft hysteria could have been taken advantage of for personal gain. Goody was rumored to have started the witchcraft and to be afflicting curses upon the Putnams. Though there was no â€Å"solid† evidence against Goody, there were plenty of accusations from the Putnams who had reason to lie and incriminate her. In some instances, and in many theories of the brisk growth of witchcraft, the fear of witchcraft was fed by those with personal vendettas against others. The Putnams and Goodys are said to be land rivals. There had long been turmoil between the families over whose land was whose. The Putnams, being highly regarded and respected, would have never been doubted or questioned directly out of fear that there would be repercussions for those who were to confront the Putnams. The incestuous accusations circling Salem just led to its making it into the history books. So many people were accused, and possibly convicted, due to personal gain. Others were accusing every which way so the attention would be off of them and on others. When the word spread about such a salient issue, paranoia set in and people would start to see signs of witchcraft everywhere and they would be cautious with their actions and words. There was so much insanity and chaos happening at the time and the word of the respected was so regarded and highly looked upon, no one ever questioned it. In a sense, very little could have been done to prevent it, but very little was done to start it. The word of those respected and the accusations of those who were over-analytical and paranoid seemed to be the deep, early roots of the hysteria.
